RaceChip chip tuning boxes do not by pass any of the factory safety measures to create more power.

For example some programs may increase the threshold of the knock sensor, some programs may manipulate the oxygen sensor into ignoring excessively rich fuel mixtures. Both these examples compromise the reliability of an engine if the work is not carried out by experts. Excessive engine knock is probably the fastest way to destroy an engine and excessively rich fuel mixtures wash the cylinders walls of lubricant which causes excessive wear. Programs which change the engine coding, in an ideal world, will be customised to each individual vehicle.

RaceChip chip tuning products leave the code of the car manufacturer completely untouched. Car manufacturers such as Audi and BMW spend hundreds of thousands of Euros to make sure the safety limits they put into their engines will be suitable for all markets, for this reason RaceChip does not alter the factory coding.

In short, with a RaceChip you will know that your engine is working within the parameters it was designed to work within.

So how does a RaceChip make more power if it does not change the factory coding?

For many reasons a car manufacturer may chose to hold back an engines power. Here are two examples:

1. Some owners may not use their car for weeks at a time, even though the petrol has lost some of its octane rating, owners still expect the engine to work as normal. If you are prepared to keep your fuel fresh you can exploit the safety margin that the car manufacturer has built into the software to make extra power.

2. This is probably the biggest factor that allows a RaceChip to make so much power. Car manufactures want to differentiate their models even though the engines are identical. They do this so they can charge a premium for the higher horsepower models. A RaceChip not only equalises the cars with the same engine, it allows the owner who maintain their cars well to exploit the excessively safe tune that the car had from the factory. Remember, the tune from the factory is the same for people who use low quality fuel, who leave their cars standing for long periods, who chose to have their car serviced at "extended service intervals" as it is for drivers who change their oil regularly and who appreciate the benefits of filling up with fresh fuel.

Some engines have a more conservative tune than others. Some cars may have a smaller gain that you would expect others have simply huge power gains over standard, the Golf MK7 GTI is a good example. It is possible to get nearly 60 bhp more out of this engine without effecting the factory fail safe measures.

And because RaceChip does not alter the factory coding in anyway it means it is totally undetectable (as long as you remove the box before you go for service!)

And for those drivers that use high octane fuel like Shell V-Power or use Octane Boosters you can get even more power. The RaceChip is supplied with setting designed to work with a normal car with normal fuel. If you are prepared to use higher octane fuel you can adjust your RaceChip to make more power.

In Summary

RaceChip is one of the finest chip tuning products on the market because it makes more power without allowing the engine to work outside its design limits.

Sure, if you have a petrol engine and you want to fit a bigger turbo then the RaceChip is not suitable for you, but if you intend to keep you car close to stock, maybe just a cat back exhaust and intake, the RaceChip will allow you to increase your engine power safely and without leaving a trace.

Diesel engines are more flexible, even if you fit a bigger turbo, the RaceChip should allow you to get the most power from it.

To repeat, if you change your petrol engine radically then RaceChip chip tuning is probably not the route for you but if you have a diesel car or if you plan on keeping your petrol engine close to standard, it has hard to argue with RaceChip chip tuning boxes.
